Corporate Climate Risk

Research from Sandra C. Vera-Muñoz examines whether managers’ choices to disclose climate risk credibly reflect their private risk materiality assessments. The study showed that the market rewards firms when they disclose climate risk in their 10-K filings.

For Fiscal Health

The Affordable Care Act provides insurance to low-income enrollees, but how were hospitals affected? A study by Pengjie Gao found the ACA significantly reduced credit risk for hospitals, potentially supporting the construction of new facilities or upgrades.

Better Disaster Relief

To improve disaster relief efficiency, Hong Guo looked at the interoperability of disaster management systems. Her research modeled the potential for districts to share technological, rescue and other resources.

Prescription Policies

To alleviate ongoing shortages of life-saving prescription drugs, the U.S. and Canada adopted policies mandating that drug manufacturers report interruptions in their supply.

Research by Junghee Lee shows that although the policies help, the mandate effectiveness depends on how competitive the product category is.

Movie Market

Marketing researcher Joonhyuk Yang examined the introduction of digital cinema technologies in South Korea and how it increased both the variety of movies available and the number of showings of the most popular movies.

For Favorable Funding

Does disclosing financial statements help crowdfunding for entrepreneurs? Research from John Donovan suggests that doing so reduces information asymmetry with potential investors and that there is a positive association between financial reporting and capital raised.

Facing Mortality

Research by Professor Craig Crossland has found a link between CEOs’ mortality salience, or an awareness of the inevitability of death, and an increase in a firms’ corporate social responsibility.
