“APPROACH EVERY OPPORTUNITY NOT ONLY WITH CONFIDENCE BUT ALSO WITH SWAGGER.”
Muffet McGraw
Muffet McGraw joined the Mendoza faculty as a Management & Organization assistant teaching professor in fall 2020, just months after retiring as a Hall of Fame women’s basketball coach. In her undergraduate course, Sports Leadership: How Leaders Make Teams Flourish, the two-time national championship coach explores the dynamics of team performance and how leaders across industries can create the same “chemistry” often exhibited by successful sports teams.
McGraw actively promotes gender equality in leadership, giving a talk in fall 2020 to the Mendoza Women in Business Club and being interviewed on CBS This Morning by host Gayle King about the fight for gender equality and how to implement changes in national and collegiate sports.
She authored a new book, “Expect More!: Dare to Stand Up and Stand Out,” which offers a guide to women seeking to advance their leadership skills. McGraw addresses what she observed as a common challenge faced by women — a lack of self-confidence. The book encourages women to “approach every opportunity not only with confidence but also with swagger.” While “Expect More!” is primarily a guide for women to expect more in their careers and family lives, it’s also an important book for men as a primer to help them learn about how to partner with women in family life, how to raise the next generation of strong women, and how to work for and with women who are in leadership positions in business.
IT, Analytics, and Operations launched two labs, the Gaming Analytics & Business Research Lab (GAMA) and the Human-centered Analytics Lab (HAL).
GAMA is co-directed by Nicholas Berente, the Viola D. Hank Associate Professor of IT, Analytics, and Operations, and David Dobolyi, assistant research professor of ITAO, and has six lab affiliates from around the world who focus on in-game economics, game development and artificial intelligence, gaming market economics and e-sports research.
HAL is co-directed by Ahmed Abbasi, the Joe and Jane Giovanini Professor of IT, Analytics, and Operations, and Ken Kelley, the Edward F. Sorin Society Professor of IT, Analytics, and Operations. It seeks to better understand the human condition in the context of the digital life of persons.
